Commercialization destroying Christmas

The true meaning of the season has lost its way

Christmas used to be about family, not greed and gifts.

o prepare for Christmas, people buy themselves frivolous things. Nobody needs a 70 inch television to watch awful, mind numbing shows that stunt creativity, and destroy intellectual curiosity.

Christmas is not about the greed of getting, but it is about the spirit of giving and generosity. Christmas was originally intended for Christian people to be generous in celebration of Jesus’ Birthday.

Christmas is a good holiday, but it has been overrun by people that want things that they think they need. But in reality, the things they are buying are probably hurting them either economically or by taking up their time. People may spend upwards of six hours on their new technological devices, which is time they could use to do anything productive or spend time with the ones they love.

It has gotten to the point where there are ‘holiday’ commercials that start in the middle of October. I say ‘holiday’, because the commercials are geared towards Christmas, but the companies that made the commercials tried to include everyone in making the commercial. Commercials mark things with ‘holiday savings’, but have Christmas trees in the background. And companies that say ‘happy holidays’ after reading an edited version of A Night Before  Christmas.

Christmas is not the only holiday in the winter, there is also Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa to name a few. I believe that all holidays should be taught to kids to teach diversity is schools, and in society.
