Trivia Crack hooks students

Trivia Crack is a game found in the App Store that stays true to its name by hooking players into its competitive trivia questions. Gym teacher Shane Harrington said the reason the game has become so popular is that “people like seeing what they know and competing with their friends.”

To win, one must obtain a “crown” for each of the six categories by either getting three questions right in a row or landing on the crown icon. Once a question is answered wrong then the turn goes to the competitor.

Some people have found certain Trivia Crack strategies that they’ve begun to use. Senior Cassie Cote describes how she manages to continue her success in the game.

“If I get the crown by answering the three questions correctly, then I choose an easy category since I have a better chance at getting it right,” said Cote. “But if I just land on the crown, then I take the risk with one of the harder categories.” Cote said she has not lost yet with the use of her newfound strategy.

The tools that pop up at the bottom of a question can be very helpful to people when they’re answering questions or trying to maintain a winning streak. There are options such as skip (which changes the question to a different one in the same category), a bomb (which cancels out two wrong options out of the four), extra time (which resets the timer), and double chance (which lets you have two chances to pick the correct answer, but you must click it before you choose your first answer).

The game gives you the option to make an account through Facebook which allows competitors to play against their friends, or Trivia Crack can also match you up with complete strangers through the game. School Librarian Becky Mazur said, “I play against random people, total randoms.”
