Salary Controls Career Choices
As seniors continue to think about the right college for them, they are beginning to think of what they want to major in. This can be very tricky because that choice will lead them into the job they could have for the rest of their life. Their career choice will determine how financially stable they are, and students could end up picking a career for the wrong reasons. People always say “If you have a job you like, you never work a day in your life.” Some students might say they want to be an orthodontist, but they know that their real passion is fashion and would secretly love to become a designer or work in retail. It is very sad that we avoid desiring a job that would be important to us just because it wouldn’t make you a whole lot of money. When students are asked what their dream job is they say a DJ, a lifeguard, or working at a zoo. But in reality they are going to be a teacher or an accountant. These jobs are so different from what they actually want, because they only care about how much money they’ll end up with and it’s so sad. Think about what you actually want out of life, and not what will be the easiest to make you rich.
