Fans show ‘RE2PECT’ to NY Yankees’ Jeter

This past baseball MLB season has been highlighted by saying farewell to one of the greatest shortstops to ever play the game. Derek Jeter has worn Yankee pinstripes his entire career, which spanned a total of twenty seasons and 2747 games. In that span, he accomplished some pretty impressive things including this season when he passed fellow Yankee great Lou Gehrig for the most hits in franchise history. Last year Jeter recorded his 3000th hit in the best way possible; a home run at Yankee Stadium.

Jeter has become a fan favorite, not just of Yankee fans, but of fans throughout the MLB. Not only is he loved for his talent, but mostly for his tremendous work ethic. “There may be people who have more talent than you,” Jeter said. “But there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do – and I believe that.” Jeter was the player that all young ballplayers look up to. Former Yankee manager Joe Torre said, “We knew from the start that there was something special about him. The way he carried himself, the way he played the game. He’s just all about winning.”

You’re playing a game, whether it’s Little League or Game 7 of the Word Series. It’s impossible to do well unless you’re having a good time. People talk about pressure. Yeah, there’s pressure. But I just look at it as fun.

— Derek Jeter

Tickets were at an all time high in every ballpark just be part of Jeter’s farewell tour. He received many gifts like a kayak from the Tampa Bay Rays, cowboy boots from the //texas Rangers, and even the number two from the scoreboard at Wrigley Field.

Some people say it his retirement was made a much bigger deal than it should have been. Others say there should have been more done for him. No matter where you stand on the matter there is no denying that Derek Jeter was one of the greatest players to ever play the game of baseball, and he loved every minute of it. “You gotta have fun,” Jeter said. “Regardless of how you look at it, we’re playing a game. It’s a business, it’s our job, but I don’t think you can do well unless you’re having fun.”

Do you agree that Derek Jeter was the greatest shortstop of all time?
