Walking into the theaters I was skeptical about the movie that has caught my eye. From the producer of ‘The Purge’ and ‘Insidious’, the Lazarus Effect is a PG-13 horror, thriller film about a group of scientists who discover a way to bring the dead back to life with a serum they have created. These scientists include Frank (Mark Duplass), Zoe (Olivia Wilde), Clay (Evan Peters), Niko (Donald Glover), and film assistant Eva (Sarah Bolger).

Watching the previews before the movie was released, I immediately wanted to see the new movie. Personally, I love horror movies and I am a huge critic. This movie, in my opinion, was really good providing it was PG-13.

After watching the trailers, then going to see the movie, you can see that the movie leads you down a slightly different path than the trailer would have.

To me, overall the movie was not as ‘scary’ as the previews made it seem. However, there were people in theater crying from the movie. There are some parts that definitely can make someone jump, but overall I believe the movie was more of a thriller rather than a horror film.fnd_mc_thelazeruseffect

This movie was not as scary as I thought it would be

With a $3 million budget, the movie made over $10 million in its first weekend showings. After only two months on set, this movie was released in February 2015. In the title, ‘Lazarus’ comes from a biblical story of Eastern Orthodox and Catholic churches. Lazarus was a man who was resurrected by Jesus after being dead for four days. At the end of the trailer, there is a flash of John 11, the chapter of the bible where Jesus is brought back to life.128079_ori

Although this movie was not as scary as I thought it would be, I would rate it a 3 out of 5 on the Tiger Paw scale, pursue it!
