Mockingjay disappoints

One of the most famous movie series of all time has returned with a third blockbuster hit. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay was released on November 21, 2014. In the first weekend it was out, the threequel made an impressive 121 million dollars. That is the fifteenth highest total for the opening weekend of any movie ever made. Surprisingly, it is still behind the two previous movies in the series, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire in sales.

Going in to the theater I was filled with excitement. I had seen the previous two Hunger Games movies and was eager to find out what happened in the third. As the movie started I was impressed because the writers picked up right where they left off. Catching Fire ended with Katniss closing her eyes on a hospital bed, and Mockingjay began with her opening them. There was no lag in the story at all.

Unfortunately that excitement and enthusiasm did not hold true to the end of the movie. I found myself leaving angry and disappointed, unsure of what was going to happen next and wishing that the next movie was already out.

In my opinion, the producers should not have separated the third book into two movies. As a result, the movie seemed drawn out and actually pretty boring. It left viewers waiting for part two, which doesn’t come out until November 20 of 2015. Mockingjay gets a 3 out of 5 on the paw scale.
