What’s a salad bar without salad?

Let us have lettuce

The salad bar has been a great addition to our school’s lunch program, in my opinion. Last year it was a completely new feature, which was well received by most all students and staff. Some people, like me, believe that the school has fairly small portion sizes some of the time. Having the salad bar has been a great way for students to get more food without adding an additional cost.

The variety and quality of the food in the salad bar is alright; I’m definitely not complaining. But I think that if we’re calling it a “salad bar,” there should be lettuce and other salad ingredients every day for students who want to make a salad. Sometimes there’s raw spinach, but I think students would be more likely to make a salad if they had romaine or iceberg lettuce and other chopped up vegetables available. I know that I personally would be thrilled to have the option to have a healthy side salad for lunch.

It would be great if there were bowls by the salad bar too, because the sections of the trays are fairly small and often are taken up by a milk carton or sides that are being served with the meal.

I think that overall, the salad bar has been a wonderful addition to our school’s lunch program, and I’m really glad we have it. It’s provided students and staff with healthy side options and much more variety. But, I think that adding lettuce, chopped up vegetables, and possibly bowls to the salad bar would be a great improvement that would be beneficial to our school community.
