Billie Eilish, a record breaking American Singer was nominated for 7 Grammys this year at the Grammy Awards. Previously, she has won 9 Grammys including Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Song of The Year. She has been awarded for breaking numerous records in the music industry, including becoming the youngest person to win Album of the Year at the Grammys and the first woman to win an Oscar, Grammy, and Golden Globe for film music twice. This 23 year old has been a huge addition to the music industry by developing a huge fan base and making her music a safe space for everyone. She is also listened to throughout the world.
I believe that Billie Eilish should have won at least two categories that she was nominated for. These 7 nominations were very fitting for her newest album Hit Me Hard And Soft. She was nominated for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the year, Pop Vocal Album, Pop Solo Performance, Grammy Award for Best Dance Pop Record, and Pop Duo Performance. Billie Eilish’s hit song Birds of a Feather got 1.781 billion streams in 2024, but no recognition. They Not Like Us was crowned the top song in 2024, made by Kendric Lamar. This song had 823.5 million streams in 2024 which makes it far behind Birds Of A Feather. I believe with the popularity and impact this song made in 2024, it should have won in the Song of The Year category. Instead, They Not Like Us took the Grammy home. The second Grammy I believe should have been won by Billie EIlish is the Album of the Year award. The winner of this Grammy award was Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter album. Beyonce’s album had 1 billion streams by the end of 2024 which is more than half of Billie’s streams, coming in at over 2 billion for her album Hit Me Hard and Soft. The numbers say it all and I believe overall, Billie gained a bigger fan base and had lots of success with her album, even if it didn’t show through the Grammy Awards.
Growing up, Billie Eilish had never liked writing songs, in fact it was her least favorite thing. With her brother, Finneas’s help, they made three incredible albums that have gone viral and reached great success. With this being said, Billie Eilish has gained the most confidence and pride over this album, and she wasn’t seen for her success. Making music has always been a struggle for her and these songs felt very vulnerable, so she should have gotten some recognition. Out of the seven nominations she had the opportunity to win, it is unfair that she couldn’t have taken at least one or two home this year.
