At long last, Tigers baseball is back in full swing at the Landers Diamond. Tuesday afternoon, the Tigers notched their first win of the year, a 4-2 decision over the Palmer Panthers.
The game saw six innings of pitching for Justin Moskal. He dealt to the tune of eleven strikeouts, while giving up only four hits and one earned run. Aside from Moskal’s stellar performance, Griffin Soderbaum closed the game, striking out one and earning the save.
On the hitting side of things, Memphis Huertas and Jackson Keller led the charge, registering two each. Keller batted one run in, along with Noah Carillon and Caiden Drohan. Only three Tigers batters struck out.
Fielding was also no issue for the Tigers on Tuesday. Everyone made their routine plays, with only one error recorded. Gavin Carpenter moved from first to third in the top of the seventh, and made a jaw-dropping diving play to end the game.
Tuesday’s game ball was given to Justin Moskal, and for good reason. Eleven K’s on a pitcher’s first outing of the year is a rare feat. For context, last year’s Opening Day starter, Matt Drobiak, only struck out six, as the Tigers fell to the Wahconah Warriors.
“It felt great,” Moskal affirmed. “It’s nice knowing that your coaches have trust in you. It makes things much easier and lets you focus on the game.”
The Tigers return to Landers on Friday, April 4th, when they take on the Granby Rams at 4pm.
