Flipboard trumps magazines
Have you ever picked up your favorite magazine to find just a few articles that interest you out of the dozens that are featured? Talk about disappointment. With the app Flipboard, you’ll never have to deal with this problem again.
Upon downloading the free app, users select interests from a list that ranges from typical news topics like economics or activism, to more uncommon ones such as fly fishing, pasta and wearable technology.
Flipboard presents articles, videos and photographs to a user from all over the internet pertaining to their given interests.
The app has a clean, simplistic design that gives the user the same satisfaction of flipping through the pages of a magazine by allowing them to navigate from article to article with the swipe of their thumb. Users are able to “flip” through all of their selected topics at once or focus on one specific area of interest.
In addition, Flipboard allows you to create your own magazine. You can add stories to a private magazine to remind yourself to read them later, or create public magazines of your favorite articles for other users to see. Flipboard also gives users the option to follow people to see what articles they post to their own magazines.
Personally, I enjoy Flipboard because it fosters the idea that we as individuals have extremely diverse interests. I’m able to go from reading about the 10 influential motivation mantras of highly successful people, to watching a video of a baby elephant taking a bath with one swipe of my thumb.
While one physical magazine could never cover every topic a certain person would want to read about, Flipboard accomplishes this feat with ease.
