I know some degree of filters are necessary in a school environment to prevent students from accessing inappropriate content but there are some times when the filters feel very random. It will block one website of a type but allow access to the other, however Apple music is blocked on the school laptops but Spotify is not. I personally believe that it shouldn’t be
I would like to be able to use the Ad- free streaming I pay for when we do independent work in class, for me personally, and many other students being allowed to listen to music helps me focus and work more diligently. As well as not wanting to deal with ads I want to have my playlists. I know other students would agree with this.. I see no reason that it’s blocked in the first place. Just like Spotify, Apple music is a music streaming service where users can stream music. There is no logical reason to block this platform but not Spotify, it literally makes no sense.
Why lock one but not the other when these sites are practically the same. I know I want to be able to listen to my playlists that I made on the streaming service that I pay for. Right now, I have to make entirely new playlists, downloads and accounts just to be able to listen to what I want. It’s overly complicated and not necessary. If Apple music gets unblocked it would benefit students who pay for it, and would like to use it to stream music.
The school uses Bark, which is a filtering system designed to limit the exposure of mature or inappropriate content children are exposed to, But I have noticed some issues with the filtering, Some things that should be blocked, like, aren’t, and content that shouldn’t be limited, like apple music and Pinterest are. The filter is inadequate in many ways. More often than not I have been sitting in class and we have an assigned video to watch that is “restricted” on the student YouTube profiles. I would ask that the school unblocks Apple Music for students to use.
