Since Netflix was established in 1997, it has become extremely popular among students across America. TV shows and movies have been discovered by students due to the wide variety of content broadcasted by Netflix.

Students spend hours during their limited free-time watching their favorite shows on Netflix. Sophomore Izzie Patruno admits how long she watches Netflix everyday, on average. “Like three, three and a half hours…probably more.”

Despite the amount of time students like Patruno spend on Netflix, they say it does not affect their school work. “It doesn’t affect my schoolwork,” says sophomore Tessa Dowd “When I’m stressed out I can just go watch [Netflix] and it helps me.”

Many students who have Netflix, particularly female students, are familiar with older TV shows such as Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill that would not have been exposed to them without the popular service.

Other shows that are popular include The Office, Breaking Bad, and American Horror Story. In addition to these, Netflix came out with a successful original series, Orange Is The New Black.

Netflix is accessible to most people because its available on different mediums. Not only can it be watched on a Smart TV (or TV using a blu ray player or gaming system), it can be viewed on computers and cellphones.

Netflix has different prices depending on what package a subscriber purchases. A free month trial is offered and then the lowest price starts at $7.99 a month. Netflix is an inexpensive way to watch movies and shows.
