Tigers Conquer Wahconah
South Hadley varsity football came out victorious at their first Friday night home game, September 18th, verse Wahconah. It was the first time beating Wahconah since 2012. By the end of the game, the score was 32-28. Joe Allard (4) threw 4 touchdown passes which led to their winning outcome.
Since 2012, South Hadley has not been able to beat Wahconah in football. However, by 9:30 at night on Friday, the Tigers triumphed over Wahconah with touchdowns from Ethan Fleming (88), Ryan Mooney (15), Jack Dawson (6), and Griffin Fitzell (3).
All the players on the Tigers were ecstatic after the game. Fans, cheerleaders, and coaches cheered for the team and their accomplishment. Even Ms. Bonneville sat in the stands cheering on the team as the clock ran out in the last quarter.
When asked what Coach Harrington expected of the game, he relied by saying, “We go into every game with a winning attitude.” The coaches have taught the players that you need to go into a game thinking positively. As expected, the team kept a good attitude and they executed the plays.
The coaches were proud of all the players who played. The Tigers are a small team so it requires many players to play the whole game. However, the players stepped up and played until the final whistle. Everyone was impressed by the team effort as a whole; however, Joe Allard (4), was considered the MVP. Also running for Athlete of Masslive, Joe contributed in helping the Tigers score and beating Wahconah. “He stepped up and had a great game when the whole team needed him.” according to Coach Harrington.
The Tigers had already played against Holyoke and Chicopee Comp. Although they lost both of those games, the coaches believe that if they keep up their good attitude then they will be able to succeed in their upcoming games.
