Obscene gestures get Milan Lucic in predicament

This is not the first time, nor last time Milan Lucic (17) has been fined for unsportsmanlike conduct. The 26 year old Boston Bruins’ left winger was fined $5,000 for an obscene gesture towards the opposing team’s fan section while he was in the penalty box. The penalty was for boarding Canadian’s Alexei Emelin (74), which Lucic then made clear he did not agree with the call. He made an inappropriate sexual gesture with his right hand and then continued mimicking by “lifting up the Stanley Cup in the air” towards the fan section.
Following an empty net, power play goal, Lucic yelled some profane words towards the referee while he was on his way from being ejected from the game. One ironic part of all of this commotion is that Lucic had recent wrist surgery and hasn’t been scoring or checking lately until this event with Alexei Emelin. It all happened in the last two minutes of the game against the Canadiens. Lucic’s actions were in response to Emelin checking him in the first two minutes of the game.

This type of behavior is just a part of the atmosphere of hockey. Every fan thrives for the fights and outbreaks, this is what they live for, but there comes a time where you have to pay a price for your actions. Many players are usually fined or suspended. Milan Lucic apologized a few days later for his unnecessary actions towards the Canadien’s. He apologized on October 18th for embarrassing the Bruins organization and said that he regrets showing the lewd gestures when he knew he shouldn’t have. The money Lucic is paying for this penalty is going to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund for the NHL.
