Winter Sports Review
South Hadley’s winter season has begun and our athletes are ready to win. Hopefully the Tigers will have a lot of success during the winter season.
The boys basketball team is now having to play without Coach Guile this season due to the fact that he is taking a year off to be with his family. Coach Guile has coached for many years and has won numerous championships with the Tigers. The Tigers made it to the Western Mass Championships last year, but lost in States. Coaching this year will be Dylan Dubuc and Mitch Staszko.
The girls basketball team has lost many players as well. Many of them have left to take the season off or to join another sport. This leaves the team with minimum returning players, but luckily, many freshmen signed up to play. Coach Pauley Dubuc and Coach Jess Nelson will be coaching this season.
Kevin McNeil will be coaching again this season for Wrestling. With a full lineup and only two missing weight classes, hard work and dedication will pay off during each match. Many new players joined and several players returned like Chris Rojas, Bobby O’Connell and Riley Baker.
Returning coaches Ben Saabs and Mike Brouillette will be coaching the girls and boys indoor track team. The team has many new players this season. and hard conditioning will definitely be what makes the boys and girls indoor track teams as strong and successful as they can be.
Swimming has a new coach since Coach Tara Cole is expecting a baby soon. The swimmers have adjusted well to new coach Nick Rice.
Hockey now has some new challenges like moving up their division to Division III A. Senior goalie Devin Hoagland said “[This season is] going to be a challenge, but we will do well and work hard.” Hoagland made Super Seven this year, meaning that he is the top player in Western Mass, which is a great accomplishment. We wish all athletes luck this season and hopefully they bring home some big wins.
