The most recent Taylor Swift album called The Tortured Poets Department, was number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album spent seventeen weeks at number one, which made it the longest running number one album in the twenty first century. The album has a total of thirty six songs, but the standard version only has sixteen. The album will take you on an emotional roller coaster, so if you ever do listen to the full album be ready for it.
Fortnight (feat. Post Malone) – 8.5/10
Fortnight is a really good song overall, but there’s just little things that I personally don’t enjoy. This is one of many songs that was played on the radio over and over again. The song just got overplayed for me, and I eventually got sick of it. This is the type of song I can listen to and enjoy every once in a while, not every hour. Although, I do love the bridge and outro. I like how the bridge is repetitive, it really emphasizes how you love someone, but you know you can’t be with them. The outro is ultimately my favorite part of the song. I really like the vocals in it, and it shows that even though you don’t want to, you have to do the responsible thing.
The Tortured Poets Department – 9/10
I knew once I saw the title of this song, it was going to eat. All of her songs that are the same name of the album are so good. This song reallys captures what it’s like to be in a toxic relationship. She told how she missed him but was reminiscing on the good and bad times.
My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys – 9/10
I liked how in this song she referenced herself to a toy, like a doll. It emphasizes how broken she was after the breakup, and how he broke things off when things were getting serious.
Down Bad – 9/10
I loved the mix of upbeat music with sad lyrics. It makes it easy for the songs to get stuck in your head, it’s very catchy. The song is also relatable by showing the anger and acceptance of a breakup.
So Long, London – 10/10
I LOVE THIS SONG. I don’t know what it is about, I just love it. I really like how you can hear the pain and anger in her voice while she’s singing. It really brings the song to life, and it’s cool to hear. I also like how the song almost builds up, it starts off slow and calm, and becomes more loud and angry.
But Daddy I Love Him – 9/10
I really liked the vibe of the song. It was playful and fun, while telling a story.
Fresh Out The Slammer – 9/10
I liked how calm and energetic it was. There was a perfect mix of it. The lyrics are explaining the playfulness of a relationship, and how blind you are when you’re in love.
Florida!!! (feat. Florence + The Machine) – 9/10
I really like how angry this song sounds at the beginning, you can hear her pain. I really like the feature in this as well, I feel like it’s a great fit for the song. The vocals were so beautiful.
Guilty as Sin? – 10/10
This is definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. I love the vocals in the song and the background music. The music is calm, but the lyrics are bold. The song captures what it’s like to have a crush, or dating someone that you didn’t do anything sinful with.
Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? – 10/10
I absolutely loved how angry she sounds in this song. You can tell how hurt she is, and how she just wants what she deserves. Her first six albums were stolen, now she has to re-record them all just to get them back. She’s tired from all of the backflash and hate she has gotten over the years. She was raised in the music industry, which for the most part was good, but the bad things always are the things that scar you for the rest of your life.
I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) – 7.5/10
I don’t really have much to say about this song. I like the lyrics but it’s just too slow for my liking. When I first saw the name I thought it was going to be something really upbeat, and exciting. I think I just wasn’t expecting it to sound very slow and calm, so I was a little sad.
loml – 10/10
This is another song that I love. The lyrics with the beat of the music are perfect. I also love that the name of the song is loml. I like how it has a double meaning of ¨love of my life¨ or ¨loss of my life¨. The song expresses how quickly someone can go from the love of your life to the loss of your life. You love someone so much, and then they just walk away when there’s finally something good.
I Can Do It With a Broken Heart – 8.5/10
To be completely honest I don’t dislike this song. It just got overplayed on the radio like ¨Fortnight¨. I love the meaning behind the song, and the beat I just got sick of hearing it over and over again. The lyrics are sad but the song itself is really upbeat, which I absolutely love. The moral of the story is that if the radio channels didn’t overplay it I would enjoy it a lot more.
The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived – 10/10
This is another one of my favorite songs on the album. The bridge is an absolute masterpiece, and the lyrics in general are very relatable. This song explains the feeling of receiving mixed signals, and not getting closure, after everything was over.
The Alchemy – 10/10
I love the catchy melody, and relatable lyrics. This song was a nice touch to the album, because it shows how she was able to find love after a harsh heartbreak, and how anyone is capable of finding someone who actually likes you for you. It was a great way to bring the mood up at the end of the album.
Clara Bow – 9/10
This song explores the fame, beauty and pressure that is placed on every woman in the music/entertainment industry. In the song it talks about each woman who was the ¨It Girl¨ from each century, comparing each of them to each other. Taylor expresses that everyone in the industry is fake and toxic.
Overall, I really enjoyed listening to this album. I think it had some fun but serious tracks that really set the mood of the entire album.
Five out of five paws, devour it!
