As of February 5th, 2025, President Donald Trump announced and signed an executive order prohibiting transgender women and girls from competing in female sports. The relevance of this news spread fast as some quickly disagreed with the message; however, due to protection and safety, this was the right move made by the President.
The difference between men and women is vast, as each individual was made with their unique physique that allows them to perform and execute to their potential. The increased muscle and strength, with a greater proportion of muscle mass and denser bones, relates to men as they have 40-50% greater upper body strength than women. Why then should you allow the two genders to play in the same contact sport?
Payton McNabb was a victim of this. The former North Carolinian volleyball star suffered from a concussion and a brutal brain injury after a transgender individual from the opposing team knocked her out. The young 17-year-old female had her life and career cut short by this, as the unconsciousness affected her whole life mentally and physically.
This is just one of many examples of what can happen if biological sex isn’t emphasized enough in sports. With Trump in office, great changes to this issue can be seen to change rapidly for the good of the American People. The significance of this issue seems to be rising, as states such as Maine are getting rightfully sued for not cooperating.
Attorney General Pam Bondi simply explains that “girls play in girls’ sports, boys play in boys’ sports. Men play in men’s sports, women play in women’s sports.”
The new standards will allow for a more organized and fair playing field, with the term “leveling the field” being used. Fairness can be resolved by keeping men in their league and women in theirs, and a more working and passionate playing field will be created. By allowing the two genders to be separated, players can feel more comfortable, enabling them to play to their full potential for the sport they love.
For oversimplification, it isn’t fair to have a man playing in a women’s sport. The division between the two genders was made for a purpose and was significant enough that boys’ and girls’ sports were split from the start. What has changed that the rules today no longer apply or have shifted?
