Dubstep proves to be beneficial

Flickr photo by Kid Gibson   Music is apart of our everyday lives, and each genre of music, or even the music lyrics, affect different people in different ways; for different reasons. We find music in movies, commercials, TV shows, in our cars, on our phones, virtually everywhere. However, every person is affected differently, simply because of your brain’s reaction to the song.

I believe that the more electrical impulses the song has, or how ‘fast’ or ‘jumpy’ the song may be, affects you in a positive way. Dubstep, a genre of music, is high in tempo and is very repetitive, yet some people enjoy listening to this ‘new’ type of music.

When you are listening to a dubstep song, you tend to move a lot more and your brain becomes more active, which can increase your ability to remember things. I believe that listening to dubstep throughout your day, can help you stay focused and can even improve your overall mood.

The electrical impulses and different sound vibrations are converted to a signal that travels through your brain nerves to your auditory cortex on both sides of your brain, triggering certain emotional responses to the music.

In dubstep, there are four main components; the intro, the bass drop, the main riff, and the outro. The intros usually start slow and simple, which build up to the bass drop. The bass drop is when you begin to pick up tempo and feel the need to ‘jump’ or ‘dance’ to the music that follows. The main riff is the part of the song that gets stuck in your head, the part that is repetitive and catchy. Finally, the outro, is where the song begins to slow down, and fade out.

I recommend listening to dubstep artists such as Skrillex, Nero, Skorge, Basshunter, Bassnectar, Knife Party, Deadmau5, S3RL, Rogue, or Zedd. You could also type in ‘trap city’ on youtube and find plenty of music revolving around this genre. There are however, many many more artists worth listening to.

I believe that after you hear a single dubstep song, because your brain is already active, you feel like you are in a lighter, lifted mood. If you’re ever feeling down, I suggest you give it a try!
