Over-priced athletes

Over the years, there has been controversy regarding the salaries of professional athletes. Many people agree that other people such as first responders and military personnel should be paid way more than what these high profile football and hockey players are being paid because they’re the ones saving lives and risking their own lives in the process. On the other hand, professional athletes are just entertainers who are very much overpaid. Although there is a risk of injury for athletes, military personnel and first responders are putting themselves in harm’s way every single day of their lives.

Professional sports are what keeps people entertained. When playoffs roll around, fans will do anything to show their team spirit. Whether it’s sitting in the frigid snow during football season, dealing with torrential downpours during baseball games, or trash-mouthing the refs in hockey, fans will be fans and will always be excited to see their teams make it to the finals and hopefully bring home a big win.

New England former tight end, Aaron Hernandez’s past of murders and fights was revealed and the NFL gladly took back any merchandise that was associated with his name because of the bad reputation it would give the NFL. Hernandez’s contract was worth $40 million dollars.

On the other hand, American troops are over in foreign countries risking their lives for our freedom, but yet some still are not paid enough money to support their families for the rest of their lives.

Professional athletes are usually never in harm’s way. If they get injured, they are given time to recover and after that they are put on the Disabled List if necessary. Whereas American troops are willingly putting themselves in harms way and may never come home.
