Pizza dubbed winner of Ultimate Food Bracket
Last month, Spotlight embarked on a mission to find our school’s favorite food. We created a bracket, March Madness style, with the top 16 main meals, snacks/sides, desserts, and beverages that we could think of. Then, after careful deliberation and some heated arguments, we gave each food a ranking of 1-16 for each category. Here is a breakdown of our four 1st seeded foods.
Main Meals: Pizza- This number one seed required very little deliberation by the Spotlight staff. Pizza is the go to meal for almost everyone. Whether it’s a party, a family dinner, or even a meal for one, pizza is always a good option to satisfy your hunger and taste buds.
Snacks/Sides: Bacon- Again, this was a no brainer for our staff. This sizzling snack is usually cooked with breakfast, but really can be eaten any time of the day. It goes great with eggs, on sandwiches, or even crumbled up in a salad. Bacon is a must when it comes to sides and snacks.
Desserts: Ice Cream- It was a little harder for us to pick a number one out of the dessert category. There were some high contenders like brownies and cookies, that had the votes of some of our staff, but ultimately this popular frozen treat that comes in hundreds of flavors took the top seed.
Beverages: Water- Maybe it’s a bit of an underdog with powerhouses like smoothies, coffee, and sports drinks, but there is no way that water could not be the number one seed for this region. It makes up 70% of the human body and it is part of almost every drink that is in this category. Without water we would die, making it a clear number one seed.
Students then filled out their brackets and each came up with their winner of the “Ultimate Food Bracket.” After all completed brackets were returned, the Spotlight staff went through each one and tallied the results of each matchup. After counting and recounting multiple times, we found the winner of each region. The final four included pizza from main meals, fries from snacks/sides, ice cream from desserts, and milkshakes from beverages. Once the final four were determined, all we had to do was go back and tally the champion votes for those four. In the end, pizza proved to be the favorite food of our high school. Good choice South Hadley, good choice.
